Concerns Shockwave Therapy Treats

Sports Injuries
Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, and chronic tendon overload that has outlasted rest and rehab. The strongest evidence base for shockwave in the current literature.
Treatments+
Focused or radial shockwave to the tendon body or insertion, three to six sessions spaced five to ten days apart, paired with progressive eccentric loading exercises between visits. Loading work is non-negotiable.
Causes+
Repetitive load that outpaced the tendon's repair capacity. The tissue stalls between fully injured and fully healed; rest calms the symptom without restarting the repair process, which is what shockwave is designed to do.
What every appointment looks like.
Every step is dialled to your tissue, presenting tendon, and stage of the chronic pattern, on the day.
Your practitioner reviews your injury history, any imaging you bring, the timeline of conservative care you have already tried, and the current pain and function pattern. Then a physical exam covering range of motion, palpation, provocation tests, and a load assessment to confirm the indication. The first visit runs forty-five to sixty minutes. Treatment begins the same visit only if the case is a fit.
Details+
- • History, prior imaging, conservative care to date
- • Range of motion, palpation, provocation tests
- • Functional load assessment for the involved tendon
- • Baseline pain and function scoring for progress tracking

When Shockwave Isn't the Right First Call
Contraindications: shockwave is not appropriate
Pregnancy in the treated region. Anticoagulant use without medical clearance from your prescribing physician. Active cancer or malignancy in the treatment zone. Open wounds or skin infection over the target tissue. Pacemaker in the immediate field of focused systems. Acute infection in the treatment area. Acute injury inside the first six weeks defers shockwave until past the acute phase.
We screen at intake
Your practitioner screens for the conditions above at intake. If anything in your history calls for it, the recommendation is to see your physician first, then return for shockwave once the underlying concern has been ruled out or cleared. Appropriate scope of practice, not a hedge. Acute injuries are deferred to the appropriate first-line care.
Sometimes load management or rehab is the better start
Some chronic tendon patterns respond fully to a structured progressive loading program before shockwave is needed. Some patterns are driven by a joint restriction or muscle pattern above the tendon, where chiropractic or RMT clears the load first. Your practitioner will tell you that directly at intake if it applies.
Three regulated practitioners. One assessment-first standard.
Shockwave at Essential Health is delivered across three disciplines: chiropractic, registered massage therapy, and physiotherapy. Each practitioner runs the assessment, confirms the indication, and delivers the treatment course within their own college's scope. Care coordinates across the team when the assessment finds more than one driver.

Registered Physiotherapist · Shockwave Certified

Steps to your first consultation.
Step Two
Your first session runs forty-five to sixty minutes. Your practitioner reviews your history, any imaging you bring, the conservative care you have already tried, and the current pain and function pattern. Then a physical exam confirms whether shockwave is the right tool. If it is, the first treatment begins the same visit. You leave with a written loading program and a realistic timeline before the appointment ends.
Step One
No referral required. Book at essentialchirormt.janeapp.com or call 905-856-2299. Same-week appointments are typically available.
Step Three
Follow-up sessions run shorter and are spaced five to ten days apart. Most chronic tendon conditions respond inside three to six sessions. Plantar fasciitis often clears in three to five. Your practitioner reassesses at each visit, and the plan adjusts based on how your tissue is responding, not on a pre-purchased package.
