Concerns Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Treats

Diastasis Recti
Separation of the abdominal muscles along the midline. Most commonly postpartum, but also follows heavy lifting or rapid weight change. Rami assesses the gap and the coordination pattern, not just the width.
Treatments+
External assessment of the midline gap and breath-and-core firing pattern. A progressive ten-to-sixteen-session midline program that re-recruits the deep abdominal wall, often paired with pelvic-floor coordination.
Causes+
Sustained intra-abdominal pressure during pregnancy or heavy lifting stretches the linea alba. The connection between pelvic floor, diaphragm, and deep abdominal wall gets disrupted and stays disrupted until retrained under load.
What every pelvic floor physiotherapy visit looks like.
Each step is dialled to your assessment, presenting concern, and the consent you have given on the day.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy at Essential Health starts with a detailed conversation in a private treatment room with the door closed. Your first session runs 45 to 60 minutes. Rami reviews your symptoms, your history of pregnancies, deliveries, surgeries, and current presentation, and what you want to address. He explains the assessment options in plain language before anything is examined. The choice between external and internal assessment is entirely yours; consent is verbal, explicit, and can be paused or changed at any moment without explanation.
Details+
- Symptom history, what makes things better and worse
- Obstetric, surgical, and medical history relevant to the pelvic floor
- External screen: posture, breathing, abdominal wall, hip mobility
- Assessment-route consent: external, internal, or external-now/internal-later — your call

When Pelvic Floor Physio Isn't the Whole Answer
Red flags: see your physician first
Blood in the urine, recurring urinary tract infection, severe pain that started suddenly, fever with pelvic pain, recent unexplained weight loss, post-menopausal bleeding, or any symptom your physician has flagged for follow-up. These warrant medical assessment before or alongside pelvic floor physio. Rami will tell you at intake if anything in your history suggests a non-musculoskeletal cause.
We screen at intake
Rami reviews your medications, prior surgeries, obstetric history, and any neurological or bleeding history before the assessment proceeds. Significant prolapse (Grade 3 or 4) often benefits from pelvic floor physio alongside a urogynaecology consultation rather than as a sole intervention. If your history calls for it, coordination with your physician or specialist happens first, then care continues here. Appropriate scope of practice, not a hedge.
Sometimes a different start fits better
External-only assessment can be the right first step when an internal exam is not yet comfortable. Cases driven by broader hip, low back, or posture patterns may start with general physiotherapy or chiropractic before pelvic floor work begins. Your physiotherapist will tell you that directly at intake if it applies.
One Registered Physiotherapist. One assessment-first standard.
Rami Singh holds a Master of Science in Physical Therapy and is registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario. He holds specific certification in pelvic floor physiotherapy and treats both women and men. Male pelvic floor conditions are under-diagnosed because most clinics do not offer care for them. Rami does. Internal assessment is offered only with explicit consent and only when clinically indicated.

Steps to your first consultation.
Step Two
Your first session runs 45 to 60 minutes in a private treatment room. Rami reviews your history, explains both external and internal assessment options, and confirms what you are comfortable with before anything is examined. Consent is verbal and explicit. You leave with a written program and a realistic session estimate before the appointment ends.
Step One
No referral required. Book at essentialchirormt.janeapp.com or call 905-856-2299. Same-day and next-day appointments are typically available.
Step Three
Follow-ups run 30 to 45 minutes and build on each prior visit. Stress incontinence with clear muscle weakness often improves within six to eight sessions. Chronic pelvic pain, diastasis recti, and prolapse typically require ten to sixteen sessions. Progress is tracked against measurable clinical markers, not against an arbitrary session count.

Start with what you notice.
You do not need to know which discipline treats your concern. We figure that out on your first visit.

I've been a patient at Essential Health for over a year. The whole team is fantastic. Dr. Becky takes her time, explains things clearly, and never rushes the appointment.
