What Brings You In

Concerns Pediatric Chiropractic Treats

Back Pain

Back Pain

School-age back complaints from heavy backpacks, hunched study posture, and growth-spurt mechanics. Most cases resolve with assessment, modified force adjustment, and a simple posture program parents reinforce at home.

Treatments+

Low-force or instrument-assisted adjustment matched to the child's age. Soft-tissue release on the guarding pattern. Parent-supervised posture and stretching plan paced to school week and growth stage.

Causes+

Heavy backpack load combined with eight-hour sitting and a growing spine that has not yet settled biomechanically. The lumbar segments lock in a guarded position and the surrounding muscles splint to protect.

Pediatric Chiropractic Process

What every pediatric visit looks like.

Each step is calibrated to your child's age, developmental stage, and presenting concern, on the day.

Step 01 · Assess
A full assessment before any technique is applied.

When parents look for a chiropractor for a newborn, infant, or older child, the first visit at Essential Health is a full assessment with you in the room. Dr. Becky reviews your child's history with you, including delivery details for infants, prior care, current concerns, and anything flagged by your paediatrician. She assesses spinal tone, posture, joint mobility, and movement patterns using her hands. For infants the assessment is entirely manual and gentle. Nothing is applied until the picture is clear and you understand what she is looking at.

Details+
  • • History, including delivery details for infants and any paediatrician notes
  • • Spinal tone, joint mobility, and posture appropriate to the child's stage
  • • Reflex patterns and cranial symmetry for newborns and young infants
  • • Contraindication screen: recent fracture, suspected infection, conditions warranting paediatric or specialist assessment first

When Pediatric Chiropractic Isn't the Right First Call

Red flags: see your paediatrician first

Fever with irritability or stiffness, sudden severe pain after a fall, suspected fracture, suspected infection, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting in an infant, breathing difficulties, or any sudden neurological change. These warrant a paediatric or emergency medical assessment before any manual care. If you are unsure, your paediatrician or the emergency department is the right first call, not the chiropractic clinic.

We screen at intake

Dr. Becky screens every child at intake for red-flag presentations and pseudo-medical claim territory. We do not claim chiropractic treats colic, ear infections, reflux, asthma, allergies, ADHD, autism, immune-system function, digestive disorders, or behavioural conditions. If your child presents with any of those concerns, your paediatrician or the relevant specialist is the appropriate primary care. We can assess for a musculoskeletal contributor alongside that care, but never as the sole treating provider. Appropriate scope of practice, not a hedge.

Sometimes a different starting point is better

Suspected developmental conditions warrant multidisciplinary medical assessment first. Recent fracture or post-surgical recovery should clear paediatric or orthopaedic follow-up before any manual work. Cases driven more by movement-deficit than joint restriction often respond better to physiotherapy as the lead modality. Your chiropractor will tell you that directly at intake if it applies.

Steps to your first consultation.

02

Step Two

Your child's first session is a full assessment with you present. Dr. Becky reviews history (delivery details for infants, prior care, anything flagged by your paediatrician), assesses spinal tone, posture, and movement appropriate to the developmental stage, and explains every step before any technique is applied. You leave with an honest picture of what is in scope and a specific estimate of how many visits the case may need.

01

Step One

No referral required. Book at essentialchirormt.janeapp.com or call 905-856-2299. Same-week pediatric appointments with Dr. Becky are typically available.

03

Step Three

Follow-up cadence is set at the first visit and updated as the case progresses. Infants with a clear mechanical pattern often respond within two to four visits. Older children with postural or sports-related issues typically need four to eight sessions, with maintenance only if clinically warranted. Discharge happens when goals are met, not at an arbitrary session count.
