Concerns Chiropractic Acupuncture Treats

Muscle Pain & Tension
An active trigger band deep inside a muscle that has not released with massage, stretching, or rest. Surface pressure cannot reach it; the contraction keeps re-firing and re-loading the same segment underneath.
Treatments+
A filament needle placed directly into the active band elicits a brief local twitch and resets the contraction. Adjustment of the underlying segment follows in the same visit, holding longer because the muscle is no longer guarding.
Causes+
The myofascial trigger sits at depth inside the muscle, where surface work cannot consistently land. Local blood flow drops, the band refers pain along a predictable pattern, and the spinal segment beneath stays loaded.
What every acupuncture and adjustment visit looks like.
Each step is shaped by your chiropractic exam findings on the day, not by a fixed point sequence.
Acupuncture at Essential Health is delivered inside a chiropractic visit. Dr. Black takes your history, examines the spine and the involved region, and tests range of motion and neurological function. The exam findings tell her two things: which spinal segments need attention, and which muscles, trigger points, or nerve pathways the needles should target. She explains what she found before she places anything. The first visit runs 45 to 60 minutes.
Details+
- • History, current symptoms, medications, and prior treatment
- • Spinal motion testing and segment-by-segment palpation
- • Neurological screen for the affected region (reflex, strength, sensation)
- • Contraindication screen: anticoagulants, bleeding disorders, recent surgery, early pregnancy

When Acupuncture Isn't the Right First Call
Red flags: see your physician first
Anticoagulant medication without medical clearance, bleeding disorders, active infection at the planned needle site, severe needle phobia, or recent surgery in the treatment area. Pregnancy in specific regions requires modified site selection. Numbness or weakness progressing down a limb, fever with joint pain, or sudden severe pain after impact all warrant a physician visit first.
We screen at intake
Dr. Black screens for contraindications at intake. She reviews your medications, prior surgeries, and any neurological or bleeding history before the needle is considered. If anything in your history calls for it, the recommendation is to clear it with your physician first. Then return for acupuncture once the underlying cause has been ruled out or treated. Appropriate scope of practice, not a hedge.
Sometimes a needle-free approach is better first
Patterns driven by broad muscular holding without a discrete trigger point often respond better when registered massage therapy leads. Cases that respond well to adjustment alone do not need a needle added. Dry needling with Rami is sometimes the cleaner referral when the pattern is purely myofascial. Your chiropractor will tell you that directly at intake if it applies.

Steps to your first consultation.
Step Two
Your first session with Dr. Black runs 45 to 60 minutes. She takes your history, examines the spine and involved region, and tests range of motion and neurological function before any needle is considered. Needling and spinal adjustment happen in the same visit when the exam supports it. You leave with a clear picture of what is driving your symptoms and a realistic follow-up cadence.
Step One
No referral required. Book at essentialchirormt.janeapp.com or call 905-856-2299. Same-week appointments with Dr. Black are typically available.
Step Three
Follow-ups run 30 to 45 minutes and build on each prior visit. Acute cases may resolve in two or three sessions. Chronic patterns typically start at weekly visits and space out as symptoms improve. The integrated session is billed as chiropractic care because Dr. Black is delivering it as a chiropractic visit. Discharge happens when goals are met, not at an arbitrary session count.

I've been a patient at Essential Health for over a year. The whole team is fantastic. Dr. Becky takes her time, explains things clearly, and never rushes the appointment.
