What Brings You In

Concerns Anxiety Counselling Treats

Stress & Anxiety

Stress & Anxiety

Generalised, social, health, panic, performance, and burnout-related anxiety. The presentation tells the practitioner where the work begins and which combination of approaches the nervous system can hold.

Treatments+

Brainspotting to access activation stored beneath conscious narrative, somatic processing to meet the body where it tenses, psychodynamic work to surface the pattern. Selected and adjusted to the specific presentation.

Causes+

The autonomic nervous system has learned a vigilance pattern that no longer matches present-day risk. Reasoning each worry into submission is exhausting and rarely generalises, which is why the work has to reach below the thinking layer.

Anxiety Counselling Process

What anxiety counselling at Essential Health looks like.

Each step is dialled to your presenting pattern, your history, and the pace your nervous system can hold, on the day.

Step 01 · Intake
A fifteen-minute fit call before any commitment.

Anxiety counselling at Essential Health starts with a fifteen-minute fit call, not a session. You notice how it feels to be heard by Nicole, whether her pacing matches yours, whether you can be slightly less curated than usual. If the fit is not right, that is treated as clinically useful information rather than awkward. The point is to make sure you land with the therapist who can actually help your nervous system settle.

When Anxiety Counselling Isn't the Right First Call

If you are in crisis right now

Anxiety counselling is for ongoing therapeutic work, not for acute crisis. If you are at risk of harming yourself or others, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. The 988 Suicide Crisis Helpline is available 24/7 across Canada by call or text. The Ontario Mental Health Helpline is 1-866-531-2600. Crisis services are designed for the moment you are in; therapy is designed for the sustained work that follows.

We screen at intake

Nicole assesses the specific anxiety pattern at intake and selects the approach that fits. If your presentation is better served elsewhere, she will say so directly. CBT-trained clinicians are easy to find in Vaughan for OCD or specific phobia. A psychiatrist is the right referral for medication consultation. Complex eating disorders, active substance use, or psychosis call for a specialised team that Essential Health does not house. Appropriate scope of practice, not a hedge.

Sometimes a different therapist is the better start

People with anxiety are often skilled at appearing fine in a therapy session. That is part of how the pattern works, which is why the fifteen-minute fit call exists before any first session is booked. If the working relationship does not click, that is treated as clinically useful information, not as awkwardness. Your therapist will tell you that directly at intake if it applies.

Steps to your first consultation.

02

Step Two

Your first session runs 50 to 60 minutes. Nicole asks about your anxiety history, your body, your sleep, and the broader context the activation sits inside. You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis or a tidy explanation. The session moves at your pace, not a clinical script. You leave with a sense of how Nicole works and what a reasonable next step looks like for you.

01

Step One

Start with a 15-minute fit call, not a session. Book at essentialchirormt.janeapp.com or call 905-856-2299. The call is a conversation about whether the fit is right, not a commitment.

03

Step Three

Follow-up sessions run 50 minutes. Weekly is the typical starting cadence for anxiety work; predictability is part of the treatment. Patients often notice shifts within six to eight sessions. As progress stabilises, some move to biweekly. There is no fixed protocol of ten sessions and done. You can pause, slow down, or end the work at any point.

I've been a patient at Essential Health for over a year. The whole team is fantastic. Dr. Becky takes her time, explains things clearly, and never rushes the appointment.
