Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning with Crystal Tait, RMT and Medical Laser Technician, or Dr. Becky Lancione, DC. A 30-minute clinical exfoliation using a sterile single-use surgical blade held at 45 degrees to lift the dead cell layer and vellus hair in a single controlled pass. Recommended for event prep, post-acne texture work, or to improve product penetration ahead of medical-grade skincare.

What Brings You In

Concerns Dermaplaning Treats

Skin Texture & Pores

Skin Texture & Pores

Rough surface texture and uneven pore appearance from dead-cell accumulation and vellus hair. A single dermaplaning pass clears both layers, improving the appearance of surface evenness immediately with no recovery window.

Treatments+

A 30-minute session with a sterile single-use surgical blade held at 45 degrees, working section by section across forehead, cheeks, chin, and jawline. Monthly cadence aligns with the natural cell-turnover cycle.

Causes+

The stratum corneum builds up faster than the natural turnover cycle clears it, while vellus hair traps oil and product on top. The combination scatters light unevenly and exaggerates the appearance of pores and surface texture.

Dermaplaning Process

What every appointment looks like.

Every step is dialled to your skin history, current routine, and the reason for the booking, on the day.

Step 01 · Assess
Five-minute skin review before any blade work.

Crystal reviews your skin history, your current home routine, any active medications (particularly retinoids and isotretinoin), and the reason for the booking. She assesses the skin under clinical lighting and confirms it is a good day for dermaplaning. Active inflammatory acne, sunburn, or open lesions can mean rescheduling. She will say so directly rather than work through a contraindication.

Details+

  • • Current home routine, including retinoids and acids
  • • Active medications and recent skin treatments

Honest Scope

When Dermaplaning Isn't the Right First Call

Contraindications: postpone or refer first

Active inflammatory acne (cystic, pustular) in the treatment area. Open lesions or active cold sores. Isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past six months. Very thin or atrophic skin. Blood-thinning medication without physician clearance. Sunburn or active eczema or psoriasis in the area.

We screen at intake

Crystal screens for these presentations at the start of every appointment. If anything in your history or skin condition on the day calls for it, the recommendation is to postpone or pair with a different modality. Appropriate scope, not a hedge. The same-day candidacy check is part of the service.

Sometimes a different modality is the better start

If the goal is pure relaxation and pampering, a medical-grade facial without the blade is often the better fit. If the goal is laxity, texture, or scarring below the surface, Morpheus8 is the structural modality. Crystal will tell you that directly at intake if it applies.

Your Treatment Practitioners

One Medical Laser Technician. One assessment-first standard.

Crystal Tait performs every dermaplaning session at Essential Health. Her background in manual therapy gives her a tactile fluency with skin that translates directly into blade control, pressure, angle, and stroke length adjusted continuously as she works across the face. Sterile single-use blades, clinical lighting, and an unhurried intake are what separate a clinical session from an at-home risk.

Steps to your first consultation.

02

Step Two

Your first session runs 30 to 45 minutes. Crystal reviews skin history, current home routine, and the reason for booking. She assesses the skin under clinical lighting, sets the 45-degree angle, and works section by section across the forehead, cheeks, chin, and jawline. Texture is smoother walking out. You leave with sun-protection guidance and a realistic cadence plan.
